About SHAMIR

The SHAMIR Society was founded and received the status of a charity in 2004. Historically it emerged as an extension of the Shamir Jewish religious community, but it’s aim is to serve the entire Latvian society by preserving the memory of Latvian Jews and researching their history and the tragedy of the Holocaust.

SHAMIR’s activities include book publishing (over 45 books, maps, and albums in 7 languages have been published in 15 years), exhibitions, concerts, and commemoration events. SHAMIR’s main project has been to establish and develop the Riga Ghetto and Holocaust Museum in Latvia.
